So, when it was announced we were going to Cowboy Jack's, I was less than enthused. I'd rather visit a restaurant that doesn't almost qualify as porn. However, NONE of the all female staff were dressed like this. Rather in a company t-shirt (and no, not a low-cut one. It sparked a complaint from others that they couldn't see the waitress' boobs. Which is why he would even come to such an establishment. He also ordered the plainest thing on the menu, and complained that it was 'too plain'.) and jeans.
I don't think Cowboy Jack's has been open very long. When we arrived, we had to wait to be greeted, though the place had about five other tables occupied. This is a big place (formerly held Gino's West Glenn and Crave), so five tables is near emptiness. The woman who met us stated she was the bartender (but later revealed to be the manager), who "didn't know what she was doing" with the seating chart. More wait. It wasn't all that long, like a suburban Olive Garden on date night, but it was definitely not appropriate for the lack of business they had.
We were seated opposite of the biggest TV I've ever seen. Which is an awesome thing, as it was Sunday afternoon and I love football. The booth we were sat in was basically on the surface of the sun. I think I had partial blindness from the direct rays of light shinning into my eyes. Also, that big ass TV? It was playing the wrong game. So we moved. And the new booth was a bit dirty. Not ebola filthy, but it needed a quick wiping. We had told the server that it was okay, but she was reprimanded by the aforementioned bartender/manager anyway. Sodas were on the house.
I ordered Slim's Pot Pie, which can be changed daily. I had the chicken, and it was SO GOOD. I'm sorry to all Grandmothers out there, but this was far, far better. To be fair, it wasn't really a "pie" since there wasn't a bottom crust, but the biscuit on top was croissant-buttery and flaky. The filling was rich and flavorful with HUGE chunks of chicken and perfectly cooked veggies. The dish itself is served in a cast iron-like skillet and is enormous. I shared with two other people and still took about half home. Which reheated nicely.
Also ordered at the table was the Santa Fe Chicken salad, which was actually really good. I don't know if I'd order a salad here knowing how good Slim's Pot Pie is. But a decent salad, not like those places who have a salad quota to fill, and end up tossing lettuce on a plate and calling it good
The last thing ordered was that plain burger I mentioned earlier. It was the Cowboy Slop Burger, and I actually thought it was pretty good. I mean, no one does it like High Life or Z-Burg, but it was all right. It was topped with (not nearly enough) queso, jalapeno bacon, onion strings, and pickles. I really think the disappointment from not seeing boobs clouded his judgment on the burger. It also came with kettle chips, as fries are an up order. And that doesn't make any fucking sense.
Overall, I had a pleasant experience. There are SO many TVs there, you couldn't miss one if you tried. I think maybe after they iron out all the kinks that come with a freshly opened restaurant, it will make for an even better dine.
I also did want to mention that the website it insanely confusing. It's not "eatcowboyjacks.com" or "cowboyjacksrest.com" or whatever. It's on The After Midnight group website, so under the company website. Not a good idea. Also, there isn't just a tab for menus, you first have to find your location, then find the page for that location, then find the menu. There has to be a better way to do this, AMG.
I do recommend you wait a month or so before trying it yourself.
And sorry about the no-photos thing. My phone died just before we got there.
